Anyway I agree with you TorontRayne, I'm burned out on fantasy games. Then again, maybe they need to recharge their batteries and accumulate new ideas for an Underrail 2. Creating a fantasy game? Wouldn't that pretty much be like starting all over again? Why not, now that they have everything ready and working (skill system, stat system, dialogue system, stealth mechanics, combat mechanics, crafting system et cetera), start working on an expansion or a sequel? I mean, think of the amount of assets Fallout 2 didn't need to create from scratch, the amount of assets it could just copy from Fallout 1 and use time to create new assets instead. Fallout 2 was put into motion right after Fallout 1 and reused a lot of stuff and ended up being an even bigger game than Fallout 1. The way I look at it Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. I mean, fine, they've been working on this game for like 7 years, I guess that would be a bit taxing for them. I don't get why he'd want to move on to a fantasy genre next. Enemies really sneak up on you and are specialized for dealing devastating first-turn attacks. The genre really has came a long way despite the CRPG Dark Age we had to go through to get here.Īnd it's probably the first cRPG I've seen who's stealth AI is actually pretty damn good. It honestly makes the original Fallout games look dated in comparison. The vision cones associated with stealth and detecting enemies reminds me of Project Zomboid in many ways. This was a great moment since I didn't specifically build my character to excel at that. I walked right up on someone accidentally the other night while sneaking, which allowed me to shank them several times before they even got a chance to attack. The stealth is so much better than any other CRPG in it's class. Unfortunately they mentioned possibly doing something in the fantasy genre which is something I am a bit tired of. I can't wait to see what they come up with next. Check out this interview with him below and the two followups for more info. He said fuck Unity it isn't good enough and got to work. Styg fucking created this game engine just because he wanted to and liked coding. What makes this compelling to me is the focus on one character as opposed to companions/party based RPG's where you have to micromanage several characters. The primary focus is on combat and crafting. This is not a "storyfag" game as the Codex would put it. The writing is actually pretty damn good considering they are not native English speakers. I don't mind traveling to certain merchants to sell shit, the backtracking doesn't bug me, I actually like the fact that you can't use a map, and I understand the need for minimalist writing.

So far most of the complaints leveled at the game haven't bothered me. I haven't gotten to that part yet, so I am interested to see how bad it is.
